Skagen Designs Wins Prestigious "Red Dot" Design Award

Basel, Switzerland, March 24, 2011 - With its outstanding and innovative design, Skagen Designs, a pioneer in Danish design for men’s and women’s timepieces, once again impressed the jury of one of the most prestigious international design competitions. In the “red dot award: product design 2011” the Skagen Denmark 809 series men’s multifunction sport watch was awarded the “red dot” seal of quality for high design quality by a jury of world-class experts.
The celebratory awards presentation, honoring Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, husband and wife team and co-founders of Skagen Designs, will take place in the Aalto-Theater in the Essen opera house in Germany, with more than 1,000 guests on July 4, 2011.

The 809 series is an empowering watch that incorporates classic Skagen Denmark elements in a sporty design. To see another one of our watches reach this great distinction, is tremendous.” said Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, owners of Skagen Designs.
Taking inspiration from Henrik Jorst’s passion for high-performance automobiles, the 809 series is all sport, all function, and all sex-appeal. This highly masculine time-piece features a large titanium case in a variety of color combinations. Under the hood, this sleek, titanium engine houses a multi-function movement over a carbon-fiber weave inlay giving the movement the illusion of floating. The outer dial adds color matched hourly indicators to the surrounding case which drives effortlessly into a pressed mesh light-weight band. The 809 series is a perfect combination of high performance and comfort, just like the sports cars that inspired them.
“As always, our jury cast a very careful eye over the products submitted. Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. This potential is increased several times over by the targeted use of our renowned design award”, says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator of the red dot design award. This year, designers and companies from 60 countries entered 4,433 products in the red dot award: product design.
The exhibition of the winning products in the red dot design museum
Together with the other award-winning products, the winning Skagen Denmark watch will be displayed July 5, 2011 in the exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011” in the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. After that it will be presented in the red dot design museum’s permanent exhibition for at least one year. With approximately 1,500 products on more than 4,000 square metres, the red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design worldwide.
