Skagen Designs Wins Two Prestigious "Red Dot" Design Awards
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:22AM Reno, NV - With it's outstanding and innovative design, Skagen Designs, the pioneer of men's and women's timepieces with a distinguished Danish flair, impressed the jury of one of the most prestigious international design competitions. In the "red dot award: product design 2010" the Skagen Denmark 20th anniversary 233 watches and Swiss Movement 585 Series were awarded the "red dot" quality label for high design quality by the jury consisting of top-class experts.
The festive awards presentation, honoring Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, husband and wife team and co-founders of Skagen Designs, will take place in the Essen opera house, the Aalto-Theater, with more than 1,000 guests on July 5, 2010. In Essen, Germany, the 2010 European Capital of Culture, the product will then be presented in a four-week special exhibition at the red dot design museum.
The Skagen Denmark 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Timepiece Collection was personally inspired and designed by the Jorsts. The 20th Anniversary timepiece collection celebrated the 233 styles that Skagen introduced in 2001 and that is recognized as a Skagen Denmark signature style. For its 20th anniversary, Skagen Designs offered its most popular design with exclusive platinum plated cases and silver colored dials. The 233 design has come to embody the spirit of the Skagen Denmark brand. Its extremely thin profile and elegant layered dial are the perfect embodiment of the elements of Danish Design for which the Skagen Denmark brand is recognized. The clean, round dials gracefully connect to distinctive bestselling Skagen Denmark stainless-steel mesh bands - fitting the wrist perfectly and looking good on everyone.
"We are so excited to receive the red dot quality label for our signature watch designs. We have been designing Danish-inspired timepieces and accessories for more than two decades and every style is very special to us. This acknowledgement is an extraordinary honor," said Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, owners of Skagen Designs."
The 585 series is everything true to the Skagen Denmark brand, offering a minimalist design, Swiss Quartz movement, and reasonable price. The 585 series features full titanium cases and link bands providing a lightweight, comfortable fit. The simplistic two-handed movement showcases a minimalistic dial, contrasted by silver hour markers positioned on the unique mirror border. The watch crystal integrates perfectly with the link design, with a thin watch case completing the look.
"All products that have won an award in the red dot design award had to convince an international expert jury of their quality. The products stand out from the masses with their excellent design and innovative approaches and proved their quality in one of the toughest design competitions worldwide," explains design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award. This year, designers and companies from 57 nations with a total of 4,252 products took part in the "red dot award: product design."
